A marketplace fellowship program for recent college graduates
If you're ready to challenge yourself in preparation for being a faithful presence for Christ in your community, then we invite you to join us as a Kansas City Fellow.

The Kansas City Fellows (KCF) program is a nine-month Christian leadership program designed to help recent college graduates explore the intersection of Faith, Work, and Community.

With a goal of laying a firm foundation, this leadership program equips Fellows to have a faithful presence for Christ in their community and world.

The Kansas City Fellows are part of The Fellows Initiative (TFI), a national organization. The following video explains what the Fellows’ programs are all about.

“Two things we want so desperately, glory and relationship, can coexist only in God.”

Timothy Keller

“Would it not make sense that God not only wants to join us in our work but also to increasingly conform us into greater Christ likeness while we work?”

Tom Nelson

“Preach the gospel, and if necessary, use words.”

St. Francis of Assisi

“Choose a job you love and you will never have to work a day in your life.”

Looking Back And Looking Forward

Looking Back and Looking Forward

January is always an interesting time with the Kansas City Fellows. The holidays have come and gone and we hit the half way point of our 9 months with them. It’s a great time to look back and see the ground we’ve covered and celebrate the many good things that we see happening. The Fellows have just finished reading Dallas Willard’s “Spirit of the Disciplines” and practicing a spiritual discipline of their choice for six weeks. The disciplines that were practiced were as diverse as the Fellows: frugality, celebration/thanksgiving and study were chosen as well as some of the more…

“Be”ing In The City

“Be”ing in the city

We kicked off our very first Round Table dinner with a passage from Jeremiah 29. Rather than going to the oft quoted (and oft misquoted) verse 11, “For I know the plans I have for you,” we went a few verses back to God’s promise to His people who are in exile. God speaks of great restoration, but in the meantime gives a commandment: “Seek the welfare of the city where you have been sent, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare. Our program is unique because we live together…

Kevin recently retired as CFO and Treasurer at Garmin after a 16-year career there. His primary accomplishments at Garmin included an IPO, serving during a period of high growth, working with analysts and shareholders on Wall Street, building a global finance team, and managing a treasury function with billions in assets.

Carol has a 30-year nursing career with the majority of her experience as a Medical Case Manager and Certified Life Care Planner. Over the past five years, Carol has volunteered with Heart-to-Heart International, organizing trips distributing medical supplies to Eastern Europe, and with Cristo Rey High School, an inner-city Kansas City school.

Kris Fernhout
Director

Kris began serving at Christ Community in January 2011. He has 20+ years of youth ministry experience in a variety of locations and contexts all over the world but now calls Kansas City home (but that doesn’t make him a Chiefs fan).

He has been married to Heather for over 20 years and has two daughters: Emma and Grace. Kris completed his MA in Youth and Family Ministry at Denver Seminary in 1996 and completed his Doctor of Ministry at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, CA in 2014 where he studied the impact of materialism on the identity and spiritual formation of adolescents and the transition young people make from college into emerging adulthood.

KC Fellows per Year

“Committing to the Kansas City Fellows program was easily one of the best investments I have ever made. This fellowship provided countless resources and opportunities to start my professional career off well, while also providing plenty of opportunities for healthy and sustainable Christian fellowship through Christ Community Church. Even after graduating from the program, my time with the fellows continues to make a very positive impact in my professional work and my walk with Christ.

Jason Prichard, KC Fellow 2015-16 - Marketing and Customer Service Coordinator, RedRock

“The Kansas City Fellows provided an intentional season for the exploration of interweaving spirituality through all contexts of life. The program expanded business acumen, catalyzed exciting opportunities professionally and socially, and championed the vital balance of challenge and grace. I exited the program better equipped for a life of significance not based on effort or intelligence but through a cultivated understanding of my identity in Jesus."
