The Kansas City Fellows 3.0

The Kansas City Fellows 3.0

September is always an exciting time for the Kansas City Fellows. A new year. New Fellows. New jobs. This September was no exception and yet, it feels different this time around.

This September marks our third year…and this year the scope of what the Fellows is all about feels inescapable. This year it feels like we have the flywheel moving at a rate where the ripples we’ve  been making in the water are ever expanding.

Just before our year started we invited the Fellows from the prior two years to welcome our new class of Fellows to Kansas City at a BBQ/Pool Party. We ended up with a crowd! Not only did we have Fellows come, some of them brought significant others, two brought spouses they now have. One, now married Fellow, brought his infant son. The KC Fellows family continues to grow.

What was especially enjoyable to witness was the camaraderie and friendship shared between Fellows classes. Fellows catching each other up on their jobs (more than 90% of our Fellows have been offered full time positions with their companies and have chosen to stay in Kansas City), their new living situations (often with fellow Fellows), their favorite KC hangouts, their summer travels and encouraging the new Fellows as they embark on what’s next.

Perhaps the highlight this September for me was attending the wedding of one the Fellows from our first year. This Fellow had a Fellow (from our second class) standing as one of his groomsmen, invited all the Fellows from his class and invited as guests other Fellows from the second year. During the reception the Fellowship was cited in speeches by the bridal party and was a normal part of conversation among the guests, many of whom traveled from cities and states where there currently are no Fellowship programs. Through experience, relationship and testimony of those involved, the Fellowship was not just a normal thing, but a “very good” thing. What a blessing to be in a place where you say you are a part of the Kansas City Fellows and everyone says, “oh that’s awesome” instead of being met with blank confused looks.

Here’s to a great 2017-18 Fellows year!!!

  1. I love the KC Fellows Program for many reasons, primarily because my now husband was in the very first class!
